I am a 4th-generation country girl who grew up on the family cattle station near Georgetown in North Queensland's Gulf country. Since before I could walk I have had a deep love of horses and rural life which has continued to this day. I started campdrafting as a 7 year old and never looked back, it is my favourite thing to do till this day!
I first picked up a point-and-shoot digital camera in 2010 to take the odd shot at campdrafts and while mustering. In 2012 I was lucky enough to go to the US for 3 months and decided to treat myself to my 1st DSLR before heading over, whilst there I was given the opportunity to attend a livestock photography course with Ranch House Designs which taught me how to start using my camera properly. In 2013 I was only drafting a couple of horses so used the time between runs to really practice my campdraft shots (and keep me out of the bar!). By the end of that year I was well and truly hooked and have been travelling to as many drafts and rodeos as possible to photograph the events ever since. I think shot selection is so, SO important in any horse sport and the fact that I have been competing for over 20 years means I know exactly what sort of shot I'd like to see of myself and endeavour to deliver the same experience for all competitors.
In addition to photographing equine events I have a deep love for capturing the beauty of rural life all around us, both the landscapes and the people that call this country home. With the support and encouragement of my partner I branched out into portrait and wedding photography in early 2020 and haven't looked back! There is something very special and rewarding in being trusted to capture a moment in time for a family or document a couples' special day. My style runs much more towards documentary/lifestyle sessions rather than carefully staged and posed shots (although I will always make sure we get at least a couple of the 'lets all smile at the camera' shots for the grandparents!) as I feel this shows the most genuine moments and reactions.
These days I call Katherine in the Northern Territory home where I am based with my partner Casey, our daughters Lucy and Claire, Jordy the resident bull terrier and a multitude of horses. I look forward to catching up with as many of you as possible over some cold ones and capturing you through the lens.
